Process Operator

American Acryl L.P. is a joint venture owned by Nippon Shokubai America Industries, Inc. (“NAII”) and Arkema Inc.  American Acryl manufactures acrylic acid at its Bayport, Texas facility for the benefit of its owners.  NAII and Arkema also have manufacturing units at the Bayport facility. The three companies work closely to maintain safe and environmentally responsible operations.

Basic Function:

Responsible for monitoring and controlling the chemical process units, and for providing site emergency support. Responsible for complying with all AIMS HESQ policies & practices including ISO-9001 and ISO-45001. This includes compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. For example, OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, etc.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Process Operators must become fully qualified for a total of five positions in one of two tracks: Oxidation, or 2EHA. The positions are:
  2. Oxidation Outside / Tank Farm
  3. 2EHA Outside / Utilities
  4. Purification Outside
  5. Purification Console
  6. 2EHA Console (2EHA track only)
  7. Oxidation Console (Oxidation track only)
  8. 6-position Process Operators must be qualified in both tracks. The number and selection of 6-position Operators will be determined by the Production Manager based on the current Operations Staffing Plan.
  9. Monitor and control process operating parameters to ensure Safety and Environmental compliance, product quality and equipment stability. Perform duties as a member of shift team working both day and night shifts and overtime as needed.
  10. Emphasis on safe, reliable, and environmentally conscious plant operations, including:
  11. Utilizing proper PPE to accomplish tasks.
  12. Monitoring and communication of potentially hazardous conditions.
  13. Locating and correcting noticeable odors, leaks, or visible emissions.
  14. Participation in site HES initiatives like maintaining Title V permit conditions, etc.
  15. Maintain appropriate HES certifications, as determined by the HES department. For example: ERT, HAZMAT, etc.
  16. Follow operating guidelines and ensure manufacturing specifications are met.
  17. Perform appropriate loss control and monitoring checklists.
  18. Maintain adequate radio communication with other Shift members and advised Supervision of any process abnormalities.
  19. Monitor process equipment and report abnormalities. Prepare process equipment for mechanical repairs, including job permitting and energy isolation.
  20. Perform minor mechanical repairs that may include activities like gasket replacement, flexible hose connections, etc.
  21. Operation of utility vehicles and forklifts.
  22. Proper use of process systems and equipment such as:
  23. Plant radio system.
  24. Hand held monitoring analyzers.
  25. Position-specific job requirements.
  26. Keeping assigned job areas clean according to plant housekeeping standards.
  27. Conduct duties as member of plant Emergency Response Team (ERT), including maintaining proficiency to function in emergency situations.

Knowledge/Skills and Experience:

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2-Year Associates Degree in Process Technology OR
  • 2 years of Operations Experience (recommended)

  • Team-builder with a positive attitude and good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking ability.
  • Effective written and oral communications skills with Supervisors/Management.
